Oak trees, particularly Coast Live Oaks and Valley Oaks, once dominated the Cupertino landscape, forming vast savannas before the area became a farming hub and later "Silicon Valley". Each of the five benches represents the leaf of a different variety of oak tree commonly (and historically) found in Cupertino and the surrounding area. The benches serve to acknowledge Cupertino’s history and love of its oak trees.
