“Ripple Effect” uses the concept of flowing water as both a physical and visual theme to welcome visitors, turning it into a transition space that echoes the motion and rhythm of water itself.
What makes the Gateway especially tied to place is how it draws from four nearby bodies of water that shape the local landscape: Monona Lake, Monona Bay, Lake Wingra, and Wingra Creek. Together, those waterways form a kind of ecological and recreational network around the pool site.
The destination it frames is Goodman Pool, a major community swimming facility that serves as a public gathering space in the city. The artwork essentially turns entering the pool into a small passage through the idea of water itself, even before you reach the water.
