The Cul de Sac Gates are composed of the geometric patterns formed by the cul-de-sacs in the neighborhoods surrounding the firehouse. These configurations emerge from the placement of homes within the constraints of rolling hills and the need to optimize traffic flow. Similar patterns appear throughout nature—in termite tunnels, ant trails, coral structures, and cellular systems such as mitochondria.

I often think of these kinds of formations as “accidental beauty”: patterns that arise without deliberate aesthetic intent, yet carry an inherent visual and structural harmony. The Cul de Sac Gates seek to capture and reveal this accidental beauty, creating a novel and engaging connection between the firehouse and the community it serves.
