Native Species Represents five local wild animal species commonly seen in the Brentwood area. The raccoon, duck, egret, fox and coyote inspired a poetry competition at the Brentwood public schools. The poems of ten local elementary school kids are integrated into the sculptures and carved into the panels of each sculpture. The poems express the love of animals and stories of encounters with them. Native Species celebrates wildlife, children and poetry and brings a strong sense of identity, continuity and creative energy to the park.
